Funding for U.S. Students Applying

This information applies to U.S. citizens and permanent residents (green card holders).

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers

Returned Peace Corps volunteers will receive priority consideration for funding. While we are currently unable to guarantee funding for all RPCVs who are admitted to the M.S. or Ph.D. program, RPCVs typically have language and other skills that give them an advantage in competing for graduate assistantships.

Michigan State University Fellowship Programs

For students applying for a Ph.D. or M.S./Ph.D. program, twenty fellowships are offered annually in each of the following two highly competitive programs:
  • University Distinguished Fellowship. These fellowships recognize academic achievement, research goals, demonstrated leadership potential, and contribution to a diverse educational community.
  • University Enrichment Fellowship. These fellowships recognize academic achievement, research goals, contribution to a diverse educational community, and a record of overcoming obstacles.
  • Students do not apply for these directly. Highly qualified applications received by early January are considered automatically.
